Woodbridge Cross Country Classic

Project Summary
I was offered the opportunity to design the T-shirt and Medal Artwork for the 43rd Annual Woodbridge XC Classic by my former high school track coach. I provided the client with 4 different designs to allow for flexibility depending on what they were looking for. We narrowed it down to 2 finalized designs, one would become the main official artwork (banners and shirts), while the other became a secondary design for medals and awards.
I wanted to incorporate elements from past designs from this XC meet, including runners, palm trees, a sunset vibe, and obviously the required wordage to promote the meet. All of these elements help fit the meet’s aesthetic since it is hosted in the beginning of the fall season during the evening.
I picked a warm color scheme that would fit against the blue background that was requested by the client for the T-shirt color. The design could consist of up to 5 colors so I made sure each one had a purpose in bringing the artwork to life.

PROCESS
Initial Sketches taking inspiration from the previous event designs, including silhouette runners, block letters, and palm trees.
A secondary design was chosen for the medal and bag designs that would be given out to race winners at the finishing line. To ensure proper printing, the Pantone colors were provided to the printer and medal production company.
Medals and Bags
An ASICS shop was setup on the meet grounds where T-shirts were sold to the general attendance. Teams picked up bulk pre-orders of the shirts, and banners were displayed around the meet for photo opportunities. Over 4,800 medals were given out to race winners from 50 different races, and first place finishers were provided a bag with my custom design printed on the front.
I hired a professional videographer to record footage from the event, showcasing the runners and their accomplishments as well as the supporting graphics that I designed for the merchandise sold and provided during this fantastic race.
